One of the most important celebrations for Russian school-leavers, called the “Last bell”, will take place on the 25th of May. It is going to be the very “last bell” for those who are finishing school this year. It is a traditional ceremony in the schools of Russia and some other post-Soviet countries. A symbolic last school will traditionally be rung by a first-year primary school pupil.

On May 25 you can see the graduating students nearly everywhere. They will wear the classic school uniform or formal dresses. However, for girls it has become customary since the 1990s to dress up in the Soviet-style school uniform with white aprons and white bows in the hair.

“The Stars of the White Nights” Festival is an international arts festival that takes place every year in St-Petersburg, Russia, during the period of the so-called White Nights. It usually starts at the end of May and lasts till the mid of July.

“The Stars of the White Nights” Festival is one of the brightest and most popular events in the classic music, opera, ballet and drama theatre world. The festival consists of a series of performances conducted by Russian dancers, singers, musicians and actors, as well as famous international guest stars.

During the last years the Festival program has included the works created by the great classical composers – Beethoven symphonies, Prokofiev’s and Tchaikovsky’s operas, the production of Wagner’s “Der Ring des Nibelungen”, in addition to the Shostakovich and Mahler Symphonies series.

The beauty of St-Petersburg White Nights only contributes to the festival’s special atmosphere. It is really amazing to come out of the historic theatre at midnight into daylight to stroll along the streets of the Northern capital of Russia.

St. Petersburg BridgeIt is well-known that the Russians like celebrating the so-called “City Birthday”. It is the day when they admire the culture traditions and history of the city they live in. Of course, St.Petersburg is not an exception. It probably has one of the best celebrations in the whole country.

Every year on 27 May the citizens and visitors of the city come to the central part of the city to enjoy parades, special historical displays, public music concerts and a firework. It is absolutely free. This year St.Petersburg will turn 308 years old.

Do not miss the celebrations on May 27. They will last all day long throughout the central part of St.Petersburg.
